How to insert a classic section in Squarespace 7.1
Did you upgrade your website to Squarespace 7.1 but miss those snazzy image animation options in classic Squarespace 7.0? This short tutorial will walk you through how to access your favorite classic animations.

How the Fluid Engine editor differs from the classic editor
The new Fluid Engine editor options are very different from the classics.
In classic the animations you may have used in the past were:
It also allowed you to customize each of the above options further.
Missing your old animations?
When I upgraded, I was shocked to find all of these animation types were gone in Squarespace 7.1. Instead, what you’ll find in the Design tab of images are what’s called Image Effects. Note: these effects are called WebGL files, which stands for Web Graphics Library. They help your browser to display 3D graphics properly.
The options include:
I suspect the vast majority of Squarespace customers won’t have need of such effects. If that’s you, how do you access those original animations? Read on…
If you’ve already upgraded to Squarespace 7.1, you may already be aware that if you click the Upgrade button that appears in the top left corner of sections, you’ve essentially applied the Fluid Engine editor to that specific section. This means that you can no longer keep it classic or use classic elements inside it. It’s a different beast altogether and can never be reverted back to classic.
Get your favorite animations back!
To work around this problem, you’ll need to follow these steps:
1. Create a brand new section.
Don’t click on the Upgrade button!
2. Click on Classic Editor.
Scroll down to the end of the left sidebar of the dialogue box that pops up and click on the hyperlink in this message: “The above sections use the new Fluid Engine editor. Looking for sections built with our Classic Editor?”
3. Click on Images.
Click Images in the left sidebar and choose your preferred style of image block.
Upload your image or choose from the Image Library in the Content section of the image block.
4. Click on Edit.
5. Switch to the Design tab.
6. Click on Animation.
Scroll down to the bottom of the list and choose Custom.
Scroll down and choose your desired custom text and image animations.
Final tip: click outside of the image to deselect it. Click the Edit Section button in the upper right corner. Select the button with the three dots under Section Height. This will allow you to reduce the size of the section’s vertical height, if needed. You can do the same with the Section Width.
I hope in the future Squarespace decides to give us back our beloved image animations in version 7.1. I mean who doesn’t love a good Fade in from Left? Until then, this workaround should get you through.
