This is a quick tutorial on how to find an image’s file number on DepositPhotos.com.

I originally created this short tutorial for a client who wasn’t quite sure how to relay the information I needed to finish her project. And I’ve encountered this on many client projects in the past as well.

For some projects, it makes sense to have the client browse the DepositPhotos.com stock image site so they can see what’s available and possible. They may not realize, however, that simply clicking on an image won’t capture the information the designer needs to find the image again. Clicking simply opens the image in a light box and doesn’t bring up a permanent URL for that image. So that only gets you part of the way there.

The client is also unlikely to have a DepositPhotos account of their own, so that’s something to be aware of.

The process is simple but not always intuitive.

Below are written steps or you can watch the video tutorial here:

Let’s say you’re a client working with a designer and you’ve chosen an image that you like on DepositPhotos.com, and you want to be able to tell them where the image is or what the number of the file is.

As an example, let’s say we’re going to choose a collection of diamond-shaped icons.

Two methods to find the File ID of images on DepositPhotos.com:

Method One: File Info Tab

If you click that button, you will find the vector illustration ID (or ID in the case of a photograph).

You would click once on the number, which is actually a button that copies the number to your clipboard.

Then you can simply right-click and paste that number into an email or message to your designer. And if you want to do it even faster, you can click Command + V (Mac) or Control + V (PC) on the keyboard.

Method 2: Right-Click

Right-click on an image and click Open a new tab in your preferred browser. What you are doing is opening that image’s main product page. Tip: ensure you are clicking on Open link in new tab and NOT Open image in new tab.

If you take a look at the URL of the image’s product page, you’ll see what’s called a permalink, and that permalink has the number of the image inside it.

In our example, it would look like the below URL:

https://depositphotos.com/vector/collection-stylized-black-outline-diamond-icons-white-background-828360924.html

The number you need to share with your designer would be that 828360924 number at the tail end of the URL. You can also simply share the entire URL with your designer as well.

How your designer uses this number

If you decide to send only the number to your designer, they will simply paste the number into the search bar at DepositPhotos.com, and that will bring up the correct image.

Your designer will then either download a low resolution sample of the image in order to create a design mockup for you, or they will download the high resolution version of the image if they are ready to finalize your project.

Hopefully this short tutorial helps clarify how to easily fetch the number of an image on DepositPhotos.com and send it to your designer.
